Sezaki Fishing Hamlet: one of Shimane’s Kept Secrets

Matsue is known for its famous sightseeing spots, such as Matsue Castle, Samurai Houses, and Horikawa Pleasure Boats. However, true beauty can be found in the daily lives of its residents.

 

Sezaki is a typical small fishing hamlet on the Shimane Peninsula. Its scenery is so superb that it draws this writer’s attention every summer. Sometimes it even wraps him in an illusion as if he were on a Mediterranean coast; the old Japanese houses in Hamlet bring him back to the memory of Japan’s old good days.

 

Only a few residents realize that Sezaki is an alluring place kept secret.

 

 

The writer recommends driving through the Shimane Peninsula( called “Ura” in local words) with its coastlines in the summer season.
